What it does
Free Translator translates EspoCRM interface labels (field names, links, dropdown options, buttons and messages) from one installed language to another, and saves them as custom language files that survive Espo upgrades.
Main features
- 3 providers: MyMemory (free), LibreTranslate (your own server) and OpenRouter (AI models such as GPT-4o-mini).
- Translation editor: see the source text and the current translation side by side, edit any row, then save.
- Smart mode: built-in CRM dictionary for Arabic, translation memory that reuses approved phrases, and an offline Arabic fallback.
- Bulk actions: Translate All, Smart Translate All and Translate Module process items one by one with progress, and continue if one item fails.
- AI Improve: with OpenRouter, the model reviews and polishes the visible translations.
- Missing scan: counts rows still missing per item and highlights them.
- Keeps Espo's own existing translations and never writes empty labels.
How to use
- Open Administration → Free Translator.
- Choose the Provider (for OpenRouter paste your API key; for MyMemory you can add a contact e-mail to raise the free quota).
- Choose Source Language (usually en_US) and Target Language (e.g. ar_AR).
- Select one or more items in Entity / Module File (Ctrl/Cmd + Click for many). Use the Fields / Links / Options / Labels boxes to limit sections.
- Click Translate for the selected item, or Translate All / Smart Translate All for many items.
- Review rows in the editor (filter: Missing / Manual / Ready), fix any text, then click Save Edits.
- Go to Administration → Clear Cache and reload the page to see the new labels.
Settings & permissions
- Only administrators can open the page and use its API.
- API keys are stored on the server and are never shown back in the browser; leave the key field empty to keep the saved key.
- Clear memory removes all learned phrases; Clean bad languages removes the invalid ar_EG entry from the language list.
Notes
- The free MyMemory service has a daily quota; when it is reached the tool tells you and fills Arabic rows from its offline dictionary — review those rows.
- Machine translation is a starting point: review important labels before saving.
- Translations of other extensions' files are written inside that extension's folder, so re-run them after updating that extension.
Install & activate
- Download the package from the link you receive with your license key.
- In EspoCRM: Administration → Extensions → Upload → Install.
- Administration → Integrations → open the extension license, enable it, paste the key, save.
- The guide and the license status are on the extension page inside Administration.
Changelog
v2.5.0 Minor 2026-10-11
- Fix All translator endpoints are now restricted to administrators.
- Fix Language codes and entity/module names are validated before any file is written (path traversal fix).
- Change API keys are no longer sent to the browser; an empty key field keeps the saved key.
- Fix Empty values are no longer saved, so labels never turn blank in the CRM.
- Fix MyMemory quota warnings are detected instead of being saved as translations; optional contact e-mail raises the free quota.
- Improve Espo's built-in translations are shown in the editor and are not re-translated or duplicated.
- Improve OpenRouter translates up to 25 rows per request, and AI Improve now really reviews translations with the model.
- Improve Smart Translate All and Translate Module run item by item with progress, so they no longer time out, and one failed item doesn't stop the run.
- New Provider errors are shown clearly, and translation stops calling a failing provider after 3 errors.
- Fix Label keys containing dots (e.g. "e.g.") are saved correctly, and section filters work in Translate.
